Make Your Mask | Poem

Slam the door, and don’t let them in.

Dad shouts and mom weeps.

“Money’s not an issue”

Lies.

Make your mask, smile and say thank you.

Close your mouth, and grin.

Slam the door, and don’t let them in.

“Just shut up!”

Not a word now.

It’s never quiet around here anyhow.

Choose your side, but don’t let it show.

“Welcome to the circus, you’re in the third row”

Beside the dogs, and beside the drunks.

Your act is the greatest of them all. . .

I make my mask, and wear it too.
